Orchestra

Orchestra is open to all pupils at The High School who play an orchestral instrument and are of suitable standard (Grade 2 or above). There are about 30 pupils in the Orchestra from Form 1 all the way through to Form 6.  Pupils perform a wide repertoire of music from classical to popular. 

The Orchestra participates in school events during the academic year and also participate in Orchestra competitions across the country with wins in Feis Ceoil (2007, 2013, and 2022) Newpark Feis Chamber group competitions (2013), Kilcoole Feis (2013), and the Wesley Feis (2007 and 2011) in recent years.

The Orchestra has performed in venues such as the National Concert Hall as part of the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras Annual Festival (2009), the National Botanical Gardens (2007 and 2006), Glenveagh Castle and Gardens (2011) as well as Malahide Castle and Gardens (2012). The Orchestra undertakes trips to perform and to collaborate with other youth orchestras and toured the city of Prague in 2008.

The Orchestra rehearses once a week in M1 (In the Music Block) from 4.00 pm to 5.15 pm on Tuesday afternoons. Extra rehearsals are arranged in the run up to events.
