Orchestra

Orchestra is open to all students in The High School who play an orchestral instrument and are of suitable standard (Grade two or above). There are about 30 students in the Orchestra from form one all the way through to form six. Students perform a wide repertoire of music from classical to popular. 

The Orchestra participates in school events during the academic year and also participate in Orchestra competitions across the country with wins in Feis Ceoil (2007 & 2013) Newpark Feis Chamber group competitions (2013), Kilcoole Feis (2013) and the Wesley Feis (2007 & 2011) in recent years.

The Orchestra has performed in venues such as The National Concert Hall as part of the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras Annual Festival (2009), The National Botanical Gardens (2007 & 2006), Glenveagh Castle & Gardens, Co. Donegal (2011) & Malahide Castle & Gardens (2012). The Orchestra undertake trips to perform and to collaborate with other youth Orchestras and toured the city of Prague in 2008.

The Orchestra rehearses once a week in M1 (In the Music Block) from 4.00pm to 5.15pm on Tuesday afternoons. Extra rehearsals are arranged in the run up to events.
